It was great chatting with Wattpad co-founder and CEO Allen Lau and his wife and Wattpad co-founder and angel investor Eva Lau at a Startup Grind event in Taipei this evening. Allen shared the story of how Wattpad grew from the 1,000 initial users of their literature app in 2006 to 65 Million unique monthly active users and 4 million monthly active writers today. He also talked about the remarkable success of “The Kissing Booth,” a 2011 story turned book series written by then 15-year-old Beth Reekles that was read 19 million times on Wattpad before being adapted into an original film by Netflix. It was the most viewed and rewatched movie on Netflix when it was released a couple months ago.
