With so many out of work, I thought I'd re-share this piece I wrote on using the "laddering" technique to understand what underlying skills you actually have. Self-assessment can be hard. When we look at "what we do" we tend to get stuck in the definitions of the roles and the industry we are in. By "laddering," and getting to those underlying skills, you can start to see that many if not all are truly applicable to other jobs and even other industries.
