I've heard a lot of people say that marketing Netflix back in the early 2000s must've been easy. Nope. Think about it. People had been renting movies the same way for decades. The closest proxy we had was mail order or worse, BMG Columbia House which did not have the best reputation. The same went for streaming. When streaming was launched as a free add-on to the DVD by mail service, we couldn’t even use the word streaming to describe it because no one in America was used to getting movies delivered that way. In fact, we had to have animations like this to show people how it worked. It's easy to look at something as successful as Netflix and think "they had it made" but in reality, nothing is guaranteed. A lot of people had to work quite hard and make good decisions again and again for that success to happen.
