The fact that Burger King Corporation 's "Whopper Detour" campaign, which offered one-cent Whoppers when you ordered via their app at any McDonald's location, is winning advertising awards is not surprising as it was pretty dang clever. And spot-on for their challenger Brand position. What's eye-opening are the stats the campaign produced: - 1.5 million Burger King app downloads - 3.5 billion earned media impressions - 37-to-1 return on investment No word on actual sales number but a 37-to-1 return on investment is a pretty good indicator that this worked.
