This is how Airbnb rewards social media mentions and builds their brand at the same time. I posted on Instagram about how an Airbnb host in San Diego was particularly great and tagged Airbnb in the post. I wanted them to see what a great job the hosts had done. Most companies would just like the post, maybe even comment. Airbnb sent me an email offering a little gift as a thank you for posting. I chose a screen print that arrived this week with a handwritten note. Keep in mind that I am not an Instagram influencer by any stretch. Airbnb doesn’t really "make" anything, so they need to have a freestanding brand that is built upon “owning the experience." Gestures like this are an excellent way to reinforce that brand.
