Anger as a Poison Anger is a trickster—it starts out like a warm hug, providing immediate reassuring feedback. But keep it around too long, and it becomes a toxin that circulates in the bloodstream, poisoning all organs and causing self-loathing and irrational hatred for others. Trust me I’ve been down this destructive road. At first, and for some months, the hatred provided a sense of ‘righteousness’ and ‘rightfullness.’ But I only became more and more irritable and dark. So it goes with all hate—the hater turns to loathing of everything and everyone. It’s critical to turn your back on anger because nothing positive comes from it. One way to do that is by breathing slow and regular, and by mentally pinpointing the ‘core nut’ of what is causing the anxiety or anger. Once the core nut is identified then mentally think through how to address that problem in your own life—not how to solve the problem flat-out. Life gets better with less worry, anxiety and hate.
