For #ThrowbackThursday , people asked me how I could stay in #Nairobi after the terrorist attack on #WestgateMall back in 2013. It happened less than a mile from where I lived, and to many seemed like a signal that I should pack up and come home. Yesterday, about two miles from home, a group of terrorists defiled and vandalized the seat of American democracy, and I watched it play out like Mr. Wilson huffing and puffing after Dennis the Menace. I'm more traumatized than I ever was during 9 years in Nairobi. I have enough food and toilet paper to last until January 21, so I may just hunker down til then. Oh--and The New York Times is calling it a "rampage." Black and Brown Americans saw the past repeating itself. White privilege is so baked into America's fabric that even the newspaper of record, the one that produced the #1619Project , refuses to admit it. It was a TERRORIST ATTACK.
