The term "career-defining moment" gets tossed around quite a bit, but I think today may be one for me. From my birth in one of the most notorious racially-divided towns in the American Midwest until today, the arc of my #journalism career has outlined my personal quest to shine light on the darkness of fear and ignorance, to elevate the voices and challenges of the vulnerable, and to amplify issues related to #socialjustice , #racism and #economicinclusion . That's why I'm greatly privileged to be reporting on the 57th anniversary of the #MarchOnWashington for National Geographic . America's current state of turmoil and protest against systemic injustice is a defining moment, and I'm eager to bear witness to the reasons that people feel compelled to participate in this event during a #pandemic . I hope my late mother and father Eloise and Lewis Jones would be proud of me in this moment. I'm definitely impressed by my own staying power in the field of #journalism .
