Why I know Doctors and Nurses Will Save Us... Because Adam Sandler said so. From somewhere deep in his apartment, Adam Sandler’s mind is summarizing why we all love these healthcare workers—and it’s because they humanly, calmly, do the daily work of ‘saving lives and stamping out disease.’ Saving lives and stamping out disease is what my doctor-father would say every day after work, when I’d ask him ‘How was work Dad?’ My father’s steady, no-ego approach to medical practice, and hearing stories over dinner about treating patients, formed my opinion (at a very young age) that healthcare and science were the most important careers one could have. This has been true for my entire life and it’s even truer now: all healthcare workers and those doing ‘first response’ work are our National Treasures.
