A Few of My Favorite Things In the midst of this (hopefully) once in a lifetime pandemic, there are, surprisingly, loads of good-news stories including: -The story of the oft-shunned African migrants in Italy helping provide fresh vegetables to...Italians! —The story of a low-income-serving grocery store owner, giving away groceries to all his customers...and he plans to do it again. Why? Because he said, ‘It’s the right thing to do.’ —Many local stories of people sharing their bottled water, TP and other items with total strangers. —Stories of families singing together. Friends connecting virtually and neighbors helping neighbors like never before. This gives me hope and a warm heart. That said, in my ‘Least Favorite’ column, there are still states that do not require ‘shelter-in-place,’ and churches encouraging large crowds of people. Here’s the thing about diseases and viruses specifically: they are equal-opportunity infectious agents. If they had personalities, you’d find them to be non-partisan, non-sexist, non-racist, non-religious, non-anything. They love everything and everybody. And that’s the problem. So let’s get more good stories of people (and leaders) being smart about social distancing and less stories of people believing they can rise above this virus.
