When I met Brittany "Tru" Kellman in Ferguson Missouri back in July of 2018, I knew I was in the presence of greatness. This young mother, community activist and #reproductivejustice warrior was weaving a quilt of #maternalhealth , #perinatalsupport , #compassion , #socialjustice in her community, a town that exploded onto the world stage after the August 2014 police-related shooting death of Michael Brown. Brown's death ignited the already boiling cauldron of race in America and elevated conversations about inequity across a broad range of topics. Through my reporting on #maternalmortality and #AfricanAmerican women for @National Geographic, I met many amazing women like Tru Kellman. So it's exciting for me to see her work elevated as it was this morning on the NBC News #TodayShow .
