I had just started my job as a reporter for #KnightRidder Washington weeks before Nelson Mandela was scheduled to speak. When I told my sister Julie about the event, she automatically declared that she would be flying in from our hometown in Southern Illinois to join me at that luncheon. I didn’t even know if I could get her a ticket, but you didn’t say “no” to Julie. You just had one job to do...figure it out. She came, we saw, I conquered by sneaking a camera into the reception.
