Today would have been my mother Eloise's 94th birthday. One of the reasons I'm such a vocal supporter of the global fight to #EndChildMarriage is because even though my mother was 19 when she wed, her knowledge of the world, her own body and consciousness, were that of a sheltered yet heavily-burdened child. As the eldest of 9 children, her entire life had consisted of helping her mother raise her younger siblings and fighting to keep access to education. Obviously, I witnessed what Life did to my mother, 10 kids and 59 years later, when she passed. And I was grateful that her sacrifices allowed me to live with an abundance of choices. So I choose to join the fight to help more girls around the world escape the psychological, physical and spiritual abuse of #childmarriage .
