I'm so glad that Kenyan journalist mary mwendwa wrote this story about her difficult journey to remote Isiolo town, to report on the impact of #Kenya 's ongoing nursing strikes. Global debates about the role or value of #journalism often lose sight of the main reason most of us joined the profession. While the politicians debate health funding and policy, Mwendwa endured a 9-hour bus trip on mostly rough roads to be a firsthand witness to the empty clinics in Merti. She was able to speak with the woman who was bleeding heavily at home, basically just waiting to die, because there was nowhere for her to seek help. The Washington Post has adopted the slogan, "Democracy Dies In Darkness." Around the world, millions of people die without ever having their challenges acknowledged.
