Watch Charles Johnson IV celebrate the passage of H.R. 1318, the Preventing Maternal Deaths Act, which passed unanimously on Dec. 11th. The landmark legislation authorizes $12 million a year in new funds over the next five years for states to create review committees that will identify and analyze the causes of maternal death, in order to translate those lessons into effective policy. On Dec. 13, the Senate passed its own version of the bill, sending it to the President to sign.
