For #ThrowbackThursday: This is where it all began, back in September of 1994. Well, actually, it all began at a National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) conference a few months earlier, after I’d had a delightful dinner conversation with Richard A. Oppel, who was Washington Bureau Chief for Knight Ridder at the time. The Monday after NABJ, Rich called to ask if I wanted to work in Washington, DC. The rest has been one 24-year wild ride, and I wouldn’t change a thing. The moral of the story? Always, ALWAYS be ready to impress a high-powered person in your professional realm with your knowledge of Chilean wine.
