Attending the WFAE 90.7fm “Charlotte Talks” event, “A Public Conversation on Building an Inclusive City: Charlotte’s AFrican American Leaders Share Their Visions.” It’s a fascinating time for me to be living here, as a journalist and an African American woman—for a lot of reasons. For example, for the first time in the City’s history, many of the key city leaders are African American....Mayor Vi Lyles , City Manager Marcus Jones, Police Chief Kerr Putney and District Attorney Spencer Merriweather III, to name a few. But Charlotte still has so many challenges—ranking dead last in social mobility among major cities, social segregation, dwindling affordable housing, inadequate public transportation . There have been a lot of important conversations since I arrived a year and a half ago.
