The word "transcendent" does not begin to describe this hauntingly beautiful performance by Patti Smith during the Nobel Prize ceremony. The harrowing, elegant lyrics to Bob Dylan's "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" would be challenging enough in any setting, but Smith's vulnerability, and the way she recovered after nervousness, will stick with me.
