Libra is dead long live Libra. dead in its original vision and launched as is. newly elected board comprised of CEO, A16, Xapo (crypto custody, A16 ecosystem), Kiva (non profit microcredit) and PayU (payment gateway roll up owned by Naspers). the recent claim is 1,500 organizations were interested in joining and 180 meet Libra’s criteria. board composition is interesting: payment gateway corp with global footprint & ties to payment networks, custody skills, non profit for virginity, leading VC for thought leadership & strategic innovation power. several thoughts come to mind: - expect Libra to be backed by only the $ as a simplification measure that will please regs & govts. (SDR backing would have been neat but i suspect it would have been too difficult from start) - Libra needs on/off ramp access to financial system to thrive, so expect those partners that left to work on a partnership behind the scenes. - would not be surprised to see large banks among the 180 eligible partners, but they will wait & are where the winds blow - Libra to clarify privacy & data usage/management. - Libra to become more of a payment system & less “crypto voodoo” to appeal to regs & govts. #currencies #tokens #Libra #payments #USD #fintech #Facebook …see more
