I'm a fan of disrupting ideas and being from Silicon Valley, and being a healthcare "implementationist," and change management expert, I hear from emerging biotech firms who want "a real world" view of their product or service or technology. So I will give the same advice to Amazon as I give to the companies I speak to which is this: building a new--and better--technology or service is NOT enough to cause disruption. (Who doesn't feel they have built a better mousetrap ?) What successful organizations do is realize that new "things" or ideas need to be adopted... which requires dealing with the age-old (and not super sexy) change management...working with and through people and politics. Trust me Amazon: people make or break the best of ideas--especially in complex organizations like clinical healthcare settings. So remember this: Culture Eats Strategy For Lunch... unless you focus on the people-side of change management!
