Thanks Amy for sharing this short example about how (seemingly ) petty healthcare has become. It seems clear from your post that your three year old son has a medical condition requiring him to learn anew how to safely swallow food... basic human need--to safely eat and drink without concern of choking ... and yet the Occupational Therapy services and "associated tools (e.g., food)" were not included as a covered benefit with your insurance. Let me ask--how was your 3 year old son supposed to get better without the help of trained health care professionals ? What bothers me in so many of these healthcare posts is an undying sense of pettiness, and disregard for people's medical problems... wether that disregard is coming from insurance providers or the public. Healthcare should be held above all other industries to be caring, loving and selfless. Which I know we all want to experience when our time comes to deal with doctors , nurses and insurers.
