6.6 million people filed claims for unemployment benefits last week. For perspective, that's twice as many as the week before. It's nearly *10 times* as many as the previous record, set back in 1982. Over the past two weeks, nearly 10 million Americans have filed unemployment claims, worse than the worst 15-week stretch of the 2008-9 recession. The numbers are staggering. But behind every one is a human story.
