The coronavirus is already affecting the economy -- disrupting supply chains, canceling events, grounding flights. But to cause a full-blown recession, the damage would need to spread -- which is exactly what the Fed stepped in today to try to prevent. It's too soon to know whether the Fed's actions will work (the markets aren't optimistic, at least so far), or whether the virus would have caused a recession in the first place. So in The New York Times today, I tried to answer a different question: What would a coronavirus recession look like?
