Everyone I talk to these days seems to have the same question: “Are we headed for a recession?” The honest answer is, “I don’t know.” (In fairness, no one else does either.) Fortunately, my job as an economics reporter isn't to predict recessions. It's to report on what's happening now, and on the risks for the future. And, above all, to focus on the real people behind the numbers we often write about. The New York Times asked me to share some thoughts on being an economics reporter in a time of uncertainty.
