When it comes to taking care of others, where should we start? What's the very first step we should take? The answer is actually simpler than most people realize: care for yourself. The honest truth is that if you can't take care of yourself, you can't take care of others. And so how do we care for ourselves? First, you have to outline your values -- these are the attributes of the people we want to become. Health is a value. Education is a value. Friendship is a value. Once you identify your values, turn them into time. If we want to live our values out, we have to properly align them with our schedules. If health is important to you, set aside time to use that exercise bike you purchased in March. If education is one of your values, dedicate an hour to reading a few nights a week. If you want to maintain a close relationship with your friends, schedule a Zoom coffee. It's only when you take care of yourself that you're able to adequately address the needs of those around you.
