Our environment shapes our behavior. The things around us can have a large impact on our wellbeing and our ability to stay focused -- especially when it comes to a work environment. One of the things I discovered during my research for Indistractable is that workplace distraction is a symptom of cultural dysfunction. When people talk about being distracted at work, there’s always a much deeper set of problems. Maybe you have coworkers who are constantly interrupting you or a boss who won’t stop micromanaging you. Even if you’re indistractable, a toxic workplace culture can be bad for your health. There are two factors in a workplace that are linked to depression and anxiety disorder: high expectations coupled with low control. Having a lot expected of us without any autonomy literally drives us crazy. And what do we do then? We look for escape! People distract themselves from the nonstop, pointless emails -- and then they distract the people around them! To address workplace distraction, we have to look at workplace culture. #Indistractable #Culture #WFH #MentalHealth …see more
