72% of parents whose kids have a smartphone are concerned they "pose too much distraction.” That's not a big surprise, is it? Well, what about this 👇 95% of teens today report that they have access to a smartphone. Here's why these statistics are important: In many ways, parents enable distraction. We’ve bowed down to our kids' demands in ways that may not benefit them or our households. Many parents don’t consider whether their child is ready for a device with potentially damaging consequences. We give into excuses like, "...but everybody at school has a smartphone and an Instagram account." Part of our jobs as parents is to ensure that our children develop a healthy relationship with the technology they use. Most of the time, our kids don't need the latest, most technologically advanced (and expensive) devices. An idea 💡 Instead of giving your kids a fully-functional smartphone, start with a feature phone that only makes calls and sends texts. As they mature, a test of whether they are ready for an upgraded device is their ability to understand the built-in settings for turning off external triggers -- do not disturb mode, Apple’s “screen time” settings, and so on.
