Accenture released a report based on a survey that around 2000 participants filled out in the US. They conclude that before COVID-19, growth in consumer digital health adoption had stalled. While the cohort is small and only US-based, I understand the criticism around digital health tools and services. My main concern is that they call it virtual care. I have a great relationship with my GP, and when I share some data with her about a potential health issue and she helps via digital communication, I don't feel that it's different from when she attends me in person. Digital health in the eyes of its users and medical professionals will always look like something that doesn't want to work, while the solution's been here all along: whether you provide care in person or by using a way of digital communication, it's just care. Stop calling it virtual care, stop alienating this from everyday medicine and accept that digital health will bring a cultural transformation. This is the new norm where the use of technologies is inevitable in caring for patients. This misconceptualization derails the whole study.
