I finished Rebooting AI, a book that provides a sober image of the status of A.I. and expectations for the near future. My favorite part was when authors Gary Marcus and Ernest Davis describe what you could do to survive a robot apocalypse. They came up with quite surprising pieces of advice. 1) Close your doors and lock them: robots cannot open mechanical doors. 2) Paint your doorknob black because robots cannot see against a black background. 3) Go upstairs. Most robots cannot climb the stairs. 4) If none of these work, hop on a table and wait. Its battery will soon run out. These are humorous but true recommendations. They show how long the path is ahead for robots and automation to catch up with what we can do.
