Yesterday, I had the chance to attend the event (virtual, of course) of deeplearning.ai and hear Andrew Ng and Eric Topol, MD speak about how medicine could attract more A.I. developers. Dr. Topol highlighted some real-life clinical examples where A.I. can help (from radiology to dermatology) and he also pointed out the major flaws with the field today (no prospective studies, only a few clinical trials, not enough data, among others). Dr. Ng told a story about how his physician father wrote in a book in the 1980s that machines will not replace physicians but would only sharpen their decision-making and clinical judgment. In response to what we are witnessing today, they launched an A.I. in medicine course at Coursera for developers and made the event's recording public.
