With more time to think about life after football, players like Josh Martin, have been using LinkedIn to grow their community and gain knowledge. Athletes tend to hit retirement early in their late 20s or 30s, and they have a whole life ahead of them. But they too are not always prepared to manage many aspects of their life. As "influencers" they also leverage LinkedIn to gain brand and endorsement deals. Even before COVID19, players had to deal with uncertainty. To prepare for uncertainty, players have put more emphasis on business education and financial empowerment over the last decade.
