At the end of last year, the FDA announced that it is reviewing the regulatory issues related to the bioprinting of biological, cellular and tissue-based products to determine whether additional guidance is needed. During the year, the agency organized workshops and meetings to prepare the regulatory body as well as the players of the industry for the coming changes. I expect that the FDA will update its regulatory framework for bioprinting in 2019, and by the time a bioprinting company issues their first product, it will be ready to face the new challenges.
