So, with the holiday's approaching, I have been paying attention to how merchants sell their goods. I notice the sales they offer and the ads they produce, including some that prove controversial. My children's books are, of course, "goods" but I think of them as delivering education. Add to that: I see them as a service not merchandise. They are meant to be read to and with children. They combine learning with good, fun, warm and engaging stories. They are meant to be read and re-read. I was delighted that the most recent book in the Lady Lucy series, Lady Lucy's Ghost Quest, was featured in a holiday guide of books that kids will enjoy. Bottom line, as an educator, I get "selling" but I prefer to think that what I am doing is "selling" imagination and a love of reading and an appreciation for stories and words.
