Healthcare workers are selflessly putting themselves at risk during this very scary and unprecedented time. I remember caring for patients during a bad flu season and having to decide who got their therapy because we were working with minimal staff because my coworkers were sick too. I struggle to find the words to describe the physical, emotional and mental challenges faced in a single shift. The gut wrenching heartbreak of families saying final goodbyes can be followed just minutes later by the exhilaration of a patient who rallies, after days of teetering on the brink. I have met and had the privilege of working with some of the most successful individuals in business and technology but truth be told, they pale in comparison to many I have stood side by side with and seen perform heroic events, then quietly go home at the end of a shift.
