Part 3 of 3: Okinawa I’m not the best traveler. I do pack light (never check) and try to get from Point A to Point B in the quickest way (the price is worth it). I use airport lounges. Here are 4 things I’ve learned from my recent trip from DC to Okinawa and back. I write this as I sit on one of several flights home. (1) I roll my clothes. Yup. Roll them and they take up less space and they rarely wrinkle. (Our dog, a basset, is more wrinkled.) (2) I’m trying a melatonin regime for the 1st time —taking it at night starting before I leave and then switching to a.m. with a gap day and continuing when home. So far so good. Will provide an update. (3) It’s good to try new things — judiciously. Japanese toilets are really remarkable but I wasn’t game to try them in a public place (the gizmos that is). Kept wondering about the quality of the water. My point: Try new things smartly. Don’t try some new food if you’re going on a boat excursion. Eat local. Why have McDs? Local food is fresher. (4) Look at television a bit for several reasons: sports and language. In Japan, lots of baseball and ping pong. My point: it has a cultural value. And listen to the language of the nation where you are. News Japanese is well worth it. OK — there might be a Part 4.
