People laughed at Don Quijote. People have laughed at my effort to try to save Southern Vermont College, including some who should be embarrassed. Here’s my view: we message when we try hard tasks. We don’t cave (think caves at SVC). We need to message. Sure, it is wise to have an orderly closure. It is never wise to make fun of innovators. It is never wise to assume one has a lock on the answers. Goodness: leaders need to show humility and hope and faith and belief in the power of the possible. Don Quijote became and is a classic that inspires. Many of us are Quixotic. I will never ever apologize for that.
