Something is drastically wrong with college accreditation, both in terms of who is getting and maintaining accreditation and who is losing it. Bennett College was cited for lack of resources; it had an opportunity to raise $$ before the appeal. The goal was $5 million but over $9 million was raised. The accreditor was unimpressed apparently and said: this was not enough. It’s like moving the standard higher when you hit the mark. How does that work? Now consider the for profit college accreditor which was removed by the prior administration for failure to identify quality educational gaps in the institutions it oversaw and playing favorites. Under the current administration, this decision is being reversed. Does anyone see the irony, the inequity, the unfairness to small private non profits? Since when can we reverse decisions or move the goal posts with such ease? I’m worried about small college accreditation. You should too. I am worried about for profit accreditation. You should too. Does the fact that Bennett is an HBCU cut against them? Just asking if big corporate educators can crush small historic places that serve students not shareholders.
