Get this. I am here at UBC as visiting prof for five weeks. They deliver breakfast at St Johns College on weekends when dining hall is closed. Comes w/ a fortune cookie. Yes. For real. Here's mine: "Le moment es bien venu d'explorer."  How apt!!!!  Yes, I will spend a good part of the day today exploring campus to find my way around. And, I see first hand how hard it is for new students, decades younger than I am, to transition to a new institution. Will write on that soon; it is an experience that reminded me of Racing Odysseus, one of the best books written by a former college President as he returned to college as a student -- ironically, the US St. Johns College.   Consider this a broader message for all of you trying something new, going to some new place and trying some new employment strategy.
