Everyone wants to be appreciated. But what if you're not in the habit of doling out praise or commendation? How can you show appreciation for others, while still keeping it real? You must follow two rules: 1. Be sincere. Attempts to flatter or compliment superficially will backfire in the long run. You also shouldn’t view commendation as a task to be checked off your list. Be specific. There’s value in expressing general appreciation, but the more specific you are, the better. Don't just tell them they're great, tell them *what* they do great--and why you appreciate it. The truth is everyone deserves commendation for something. By learning to identify, recognize, and praise the gifts of others, you bring out the best in them.
