It’s a pleasure to share “Work Simply, Remotely,” a bi-weekly newsletter for leaders to learn how they can cultivate an engaged, high-performance workforce, one where workers can leverage their productivity strengths to work simply. An agile and productive workforce is essential now because two epidemics currently ravage the workplace: COVID-19 and disengagement. It’s tempting to think the COVID caused disengagement, however employee disengagement was pervasive before the pandemic. According to Gallup’s 2019 State of the American Workplace report, 65% of the United States workforce is disengaged. Endless meetings, Zoom fatigue, no boundary between work and home, the increased pressure on parents to assume the roles of teacher, employer, and caregiver; and a wave of economic and health uncertainty have all exacerbated the disengagement epidemic. If companies want to profit, maintain customer satisfaction, ensure market leadership, and increase productivity, employee engagement needs to be the number one focus.
