This year, Housing Is A Human Right released a sweeping investigative report about government-sanctioned gentrification in Los Angeles. Mayor Eric Garcetti stands at the center of this important exposé by award-winning, investigative journalist @patrickrangemcdonald Republished in Ark Republic's series on gentrification, it details how Garcetti's "build, baby, build" development cry was a bust for most Angelenos. As the second largest city in the United States, the largely untold story about L.A.’s devastating gentrification crisis is a must-read cautionary tale for the rest of the nation. Pieces like this make me crazy. I commend Carlton, an elite selective private college. Good job and their president is wise (and I base this on personal experience with him too). But, many non-elite small colleges have focused on careers for decades. The Chronicle seems to treat this as "new." For decades, small non-elite colleges were criticized for not truly being liberal arts colleges because they also had a career focus in addition to a liberal arts curriculum and core. Funny how the tables turn but the non-elites still get little recognition for decades of effort. Just as an example: consider nursing programs at liberal arts colleges. Consider criminal justice degrees a liberal arts colleges. Come on. Let's give recognition where its due -- or overdue. …see more
Book has tangible implementable strategies -- so it is a book that combines theory and practice. In the trenches, concrete suggestions. Interestingly, that is also an approach for improving institutions -- theory and practice. We need both. One without the other is like walking with one shoe on and one she off. And, lasticity as developed in the book is geared toward education, its use can be expanded to include other organizations trying and needing to make institutional culture change. It's a book that explains people and then how organizations can better respond to and engage w/ them. …see more

I may have taken Lyft to task for the odd set up of their recent subscription plan as compared to Uber , but this is a very smart move. A little surprised this didn't happen sooner. This is pretty amazing and something I thought was still years away. Singapore has approved lab-grown chicken from Eat Just, Inc. for sale as an ingredient. The first-ever meat sold that didn't come as a result of killing an actual animal. This is, of course, different than meat substitutes like Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat in that Eat Just is selling actual meat. It will be fun to watch this industry grows as other companies are currently taking on growing seafood and beef. #eatjust #beyondmeat #labgrownmeat #chicken #futurefood #impossiblefoods #bioscience …see more
