There is only one thing you can do about this. You must become the very best AI coworker you can become. No matter how smart you think you are, there are things a well-trained AI system can do better than you can. Think about this...

Are data-poor organizations doomed? We’ve been running a data science experiment over the past few months. We were shocked, but not surprised by what we learned. Think about this...

I understand both the desire and the need for our government to get a handle on the issues surrounding data privacy, but think about this… let’s say that the outcome is a broken-up Google and Facebook. And let’s say that this makes way for 50 more companies that use data the way Google and Facebook use it today. Then what? The problem is not how data is being collected. The problem is not collecting data. The problem is how it is used. Specifically, the problem is badly-written laws that prohibit certain kinds of information collection (sex, race, PHI, and other sensitive personal data). Why? Because it forces data scientists to create proxies for these attributes. Algorithms that use proxies (which are assumptions) with substandard or nonexistent feedback loops (to help the AI truly learn from its mistakes) doom the data-driven decision making process to one of the nine circles of hell (though I’m not sure which one). Breaking up data-rich organizations will simply make more versions of the same data-rich organizations. Allowing more small companies to do what the big companies are doing will not change the impact bad data science is already having on our society (a problem not trending in a good direction). …see more

"I had made it very clear that if they move the price by a penny, I won’t do it. This was a showstopper for me. So I told them to get on the phone to their CEO and sort this out. We walked out of the office and left them in there and I could hear heated conversations in Dutch. Then they called me back in and said, “We’ve spoken to Max and he agrees that it’s a showstopper. If you don’t agree to it, we’ll stop the show.” I said, “OK, great. See you later. There’s the door.” Duane Jackson on turning down one of several multi-million pound offers to buy his company. https://lnkd.in/dznEZVm #founder #startup #entrepreneur …see more

When this (pandemic) is all over, what will the opportunities look like? "Vastly different. Like a forest fire, it will destroy much of what we loved — people, places, things — and leave us with sorrow and mourning and bare ground. I’ll be surprised if half my regular restaurants, cafes, music venues will survive. But from the charred ground, all-new things will grow."
