the startup/incumbent divide in financial services (whether the startup side is defined as fintech or defi or crypto) is an identity war. one side defines itself affirmatively as centralized, protective of users, benevolent, secure, orderly (amongst other things) the other defines itself affirmatively as insurgent, edgy, innovative, user centric (amongst other things) each side defines the other by the attributes it abhors: - not innovative, takes advantage of users, not secure, too expensive, bad for the system, doomed to fail each side secretly wants to acquire the positive attributes of the other. ultimately, as with many identity wars, each side’s minimalists will cross pollinate to create something new, while each side’s maximalists will further polarize. #digital #innovation #fintech #financialservices #defi #identity #strategy …see more
