Would love to know the “why” behind some of LinkedIn ’s job matching algorithm results. For example, how does this match a search for VP Brand Marketing? Believe me, I’m not slagging administrative assistants as they play a crucial role in helping companies run. Just don’t get how that search yields this result. #linkedin #jobsearch #algorithms …see more

Interesting read from the  Harvard Business Review on when to hire generalists and when to hire specialists. In my experience, I find their conclusions to be accurate. The one thing I would add is that startups almost always hire generalist when starting out then get to specialists as they scale. Does anyone else feel differently?   #business #generalists #specialists #startups #hiring …see more

In a not-terribly-surprising move, Lyft  has acquired Motivate International Inc.  which means they instantly have 80% of bike share rides in the United States. One of the hallmarks of a well-run company is information sharing. It not only engenders trust but it provides full context for decision making.  Normally, though, that describes information sharing from the top-down and across the company. Reed Hastings  has smartly taken it to the top-up by rethinking how board members interact with senior management at  Netflix . …see more

California burger chain In-N-Out Burger has been doing a fair amount of international pop-ups. Which might be exciting save for the reason they are doing them - trademark protection (not international expansion, sorry).
