Just an oddity on this post-Thanksgiving Friday. There are sales galore. Now focus on this: The US government was recently “selling” a fake US university in Detroit to foreign students. And it “looked” real enough that students enrolled and paid thousands. Who knows where the money went. Now, the fake government was a success in trapping some of the student visa fraud. This fake university success occurs as real universities/colleges are failing — and they are desperately trying to get students, domestic or foreign. Is anyone seeing irony here? The fake university enrolls students with ease while the real school admissions officers are struggling? Two thoughts: maybe government is onto a legal way to get new students and isn’t what US did entrapment? One more thought: is setting up a fake university the best use of government talent and resources? If these gov. folks are so talented, why not have them work on real education at real educational institutions in need? Maybe it's me but the LINKEDIN platform will not let me post a post.  Is there a hidden message in that? Anyhow, I wrote a piece about change and stagnation and values and Memorial Day. It is appearing in VTDigger on Monday. Happy to post it here but I can't post.  So, short messages will have to do until the problem (on their side or mine) is fixed.  In the meanwhile, I will spend the holiday visiting w/ friends, visiting Arlington Cemetery and listening to choral groups from the Military.  The piece -- when published -- will be linked here.  I leave you with the question: on some subjects of import we talk and talk but nothing actually happens to improve things. Ok Washingtonians, here’s a challenge contest for the holidays. Purchase my books at Fabulous Market (on Pennsylvania Ave NW between 24th and 25th Streets) until whole inventory is gone but no later than December 6th. The books are $14 each there. There are 12 books in total at Fabulous. Then, if the rack is empty on December 7th, I will donate 5 books to needy families in DC area for the holidays. And who knows, maybe visitors to DC (staying at the Melrose) will buy some too. Challenge is on. Come on. And reading is the gift that keeps on giving!!!!
