One of the great things about the current state of the Internet is that it allows us to hold moderated Socratic debates on important topics. So… What is your thesis? It’s time for a Socratic debate.

I wanted to write quickly — more later — on two aspects of the #TSS2020ATN . First, I saw the movie Wrestling Ghosts: powerful, moving, sad, hopeful. It needed a serious debrief afterwards. Lots of ideas that needed processing and Care Room helped but not enough. Second: I think now that we misuse ACE score as a diagnostic tool when it is neither destiny or a personal measure of #health . What it is is actually a gateway into understanding others and oneself. But the number free standing and without more and without context and without PCEs is somewhat misleading. Its power is housed in what it tells us at 10,000 feet and on the ground if used well and understood for what it is and isn’t. That later “isn’t” requires that lots of folks reconsider their use and understanding of ACEs. …see more

I read this headline and thought that one of the current Justices had died and I had missed the news of this person's passing. Phew. No one died. Seems strange to offer up that list today and then to remain silent on Moore. Hum.

We need to pay way more attention to our military serving abroad — at least that is how it appears. We have military all over the world (some with families) in South Korea, Japan including Okinawa, Germany, Italy, France.... among other locations. How are we protecting these folks who serve our nation? Will they get first vaccines? Will they get masks? Is there quality healthcare in sufficient numbers? The Pentagon is working on a plan apparently. Ask about ships (oh dear, quarantine didn’t work on ship in Japan), cargo planes, bases with tight living quarters. Who wants to parachute into a nation filled with COVID-19? Who is overseeing this? Pence? A general? A medical expert in epidemiology? Facts and info please. …see more

Bravo and brava to the educators. Without so naming it, they are using trauma-responsive pedagogy. The threat of the virus along with school closures is traumatizing. My new book can’t come out soon enough. It has a myriad of strategies that would help, including for lowering the autonomic nervous system response. Pre-order @ https://lnkd.in/eCgEc8J. …see more

We need to help kids deal with social distancing, stay-at-home mandates and school closure. Link to free book hasn't linked in several posts (beats me as to why) but here is the children's book I wrote on this -- it is a FREE resource. Send it to kids, read it to kids, text it, forward it, get it into the hands of teachers. Spanish version in the works. Kids relate to the central character Wrinkles, a dog. Kids need to process what is happening in and to their world. Please share this far and wide across US and globe. Mental health is key to physical health.... https://lnkd.in/dz3JjmD …see more

Do we have those code words here in our pharmacies? I hope so. The statistics are staggering. I had a head of school share with me how his school families were all having family dinners and enriched sleep. Oh dear. Not so. Fighting, physical and verbal abuse and staying awake to avoid sexual abuse. If all his families are fine (even if privileged), then he is naive or living in a fantasy land. Sad. He’s an educator. …see more

I did a podcast in Jan., before the pandemic became the pandemic. It was on creating trauma responsive schools and why we need them. Here’s what I want to know: How did the Covid aid (thru various packages) go to so many places that did not need it (Harvard and Potbelly among others)? Some Colleges got zero $$ as I understand it as it stands now. Do part time students lower number? Does grad rate matter? Explain who got it and who didn’t and I’m not referring to dead individuals; they get social security too due to errors, altho families of Covid deceased may qualify. …see more
