Great read on the real cost of free shipping. The only thing I would point out is that just because Amazon can subsidize free shipping does not mean you should just grouse about it or kill your business to try and keep up. There are solid examples of companies trying ways to not get sucked down by the cost of free shipping. …see more

I agree with this 100%. Design has a business function and is not art. Is it creative? I can be. But not art. Any smart design project begins with objectives, context, and questions ideally in a creative brief.

Good start but that just gives you a freeze frame what has passed. Now imagine if they had tapped into the streaming live data channel Big RSS, on Satori and built an app on top of that. Then they would be tracking sentiment second-by-second allowing for better insight and prediction. …see more

Why is it that everything Silicon Valley tries to do regarding investments outside of the SF Bay Area comes off as “the gods from on high will see you now?” Also, while there are valid points regarding taxes and cost of living, this pendulum swing all the way to “the valley is over” is a gross simplification. …see more

The name of this company,  Welcome to the Jungle , is pretty brilliant given what they do (inbound job recruitment) and, of course, the cultural reference to the universally recognized GnR song.

This is a great read not just on Shonda Rhimes but on  Netflix , why creators are flocking there, and why that scares the rest of Hollywood. Not to mention a clear example of Netflix using viewing data to inform (not dictate) content decisions.   #netflix #streaming #ott #hollywood #shondarhimes #shondaland #strategy …see more

Much in the same way retail isn't dying but being re-invented, so, too, are restaurants. CB Insights does a great job here of parsing through how that is taking place. It also provides a clear understanding of why chains like Friendlys Restaurant , Bennigan’s , and Joe's Crab Shack all filed for bankruptcy. #restaurants #dining #franchising #reinvention #change #adaptordie …see more

Interesting read on how the grocery industry is leveraging tech. To be honest, though, I thought the following would've happened years ago (glad to see it starting to happen now at least): "Last year, Kroger introduced a system called “Scan, Bag, Go” that allows customers to scan and pay for grocery items as they shop — with their smartphone." #grocery #retail #shopping #CX #customerexperience #kroger …see more

Much like how "millennials" aren't a monolith, neither are folks from other generations. Smar startups think less about age and more about what stage they're in and what a particular person can bring to the role. #hiring #recruiting #ageism #experiencematters …see more
