It's pouring outside here in Gloucester MA. And, I am worried about Thanksgiving, a holiday that many see as a Hallmark card (although it rarely is.) I looked at the data on Canada as their Thanksgiving predates ours; it led to a rise in cases. https://lnkd.in/eu9BWky . Then, I saw images of our airports now in anticipation of the holiday, and it makes me realize that the next month leading up to the New Year may be a total disaster in terms of illness and deaths. We aren't listening to scientists/medical experts. Too many are gathering and celebrating in groups; we're defying what would save lives -- wearing masks and social distancing. I have a forthcoming piece in New England Journal of Higher Education explaining non-compliance as it relates to young people (high schoolers and college students). But, I haven't written about adult non-compliance (yet). What are we thinking? Is it the same thinking that let's us think that there was massive election fraud that accounts for the Trump loss? We don't want to believe truth? We don't want to believe science? We don't want to believe voters and election monitors? Sad to say: we seem to disregard that with which we don't agree -- despite truth to the contrary. That's scary. On every front. …see more
