Given the rise of "services" as revenue, I don't think too many people would be surprised by this move. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they wrapped every "like" service into a bundle at some point. #But what other bundles do you think makes sense for Apple to offer now? #apple #subscription #subscriptionmodel #icloud #applemusic #subscriptionbundles #subscriptioneconomy …see more

The season's speaker tour is still on - I've had great audiences in Washington, Frankfurt and Malta, and had the chance to recommend Love, Death & Robots to dozens of people (and now to you too!). It helps to understand the cultural and emotional components around technological changes. Amsterdam and London are the next stations - I hope to see some of you around soon! Just a teaser of what you can expect at my keynotes: #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #speaker #keynote #speakerlife …see more

I used to be a Steve Kerr fan. No longer. Read this piece on Nowitski decision, and Nelson (coach) owned that decision not to play him. Kerr not only deferred all decisions to GM but did not make the hard choice: prohibiting KD from playing. True leaders own their choices good or bad. That’s not easy. If you are a leader and your institution fails and falls into sewer and you have been leader for more than a couple years, you own it ... denial is both unleader-like and disingenuous. Kerr fell in my book; courage and making hard decisions are the hallmarks of real leaders. Sadly, we are seeing too many examples of leadership failure. Bad role models too — in athletics and education. What happened to following the adage that leaders take the blame? Maybe these leaders are working so hard to keep their jobs that they don’t do their jobs. Bad news on all fronts. Wear a sign as a coach or college president or any other leader: the buck stops with me. That’s in case one forgets!!! …see more

It's pouring outside here in Gloucester MA. And, I am worried about Thanksgiving, a holiday that many see as a Hallmark card (although it rarely is.) I looked at the data on Canada as their Thanksgiving predates ours; it led to a rise in cases. https://lnkd.in/eu9BWky . Then, I saw images of our airports now in anticipation of the holiday, and it makes me realize that the next month leading up to the New Year may be a total disaster in terms of illness and deaths. We aren't listening to scientists/medical experts. Too many are gathering and celebrating in groups; we're defying what would save lives -- wearing masks and social distancing. I have a forthcoming piece in New England Journal of Higher Education explaining non-compliance as it relates to young people (high schoolers and college students). But, I haven't written about adult non-compliance (yet). What are we thinking? Is it the same thinking that let's us think that there was massive election fraud that accounts for the Trump loss? We don't want to believe truth? We don't want to believe science? We don't want to believe voters and election monitors? Sad to say: we seem to disregard that with which we don't agree -- despite truth to the contrary. That's scary. On every front. …see more
