I don’t know why I’m so drawn to these living on Mars experiments (perhaps with Covid in the air it’s a bit like living on Mars) but after reading this article, I bought the book and now I’m reading “Once Upon a Time I Lived on Mars.”

“You can always tell who the pioneers are. They’re the ones with the arrows in their backs.” — Anonymous Politically Incorrect Person AR (augmented reality) has been put to good use in handsets with apps such as Google Translate, Snapchat, and Pokemon Go (not really AR, but AR-ish). Headsets have struggled to find customers. It’s easy to understand why. Just ask me and my fellow Google Glassholes how it feels to wear geeky eyewear in public. We may need to wait for eyewear where the technology is truly invisible to others, or until it becomes socially acceptable to wear Darth Vader or Stormtrooper helmets in public. Some may want to wait for implants or digital cataract replacements. Regardless of what’s coming, one thing is clear: this is a idea whose time has not yet come. That said, I am super excited about the possibilities of MR (mixed reality) and I truly believe it’s the next new, new thing. How will it work? Which application will capture consumers’ imaginations? That’s yet to be seen. …see more

Great read on the real cost of free shipping. The only thing I would point out is that just because Amazon can subsidize free shipping does not mean you should just grouse about it or kill your business to try and keep up. There are solid examples of companies trying ways to not get sucked down by the cost of free shipping. …see more

The more I listen to the news (bad habit), the more I see the need for creating more trauma- responsive schools, colleges, workplaces and community organizations and centers. Many folks are experiencing trauma (no, it is not a trend as one educator suggested to me). We need to take institutional responsibility for helping our students, employees and clients navigate forward. This course is aimed at providing some strategies and suggestions for creating trauma responsive organizations. Reason price; easy to register; discount on book that forms the architecture (Trauma Doesn't Stop at the School Door). And, while at Rutgers GSSW, one can enroll without being a social worker. Join us. Learn. Share. July 31 from 9:30 -- 12:30 on Zoom (with exercises and activities and engagement. https://lnkd.in/en3kMmM …see more
